A peek at an interview with Marie Benitez

Interviewer: Could you tell me at what age did you gain an interest in wedding planning?
Marie: Well, that’s hard to say. I guess I was always known as the planner of the family. Even as a child
in dancing school, I started to choreograph dances and music. I guess I always had a passion of putting
things together and creating something amazing.
Interviewer: So, did you always know that wedding planning was what you were going to do when you grow up?
Marie: Oh no! I didn’t even know there was such a thing as a wedding planner when I was young. I just knew
that I like to create beautiful things. I honestly had no idea I be here today, you know, doing what I love.
I think my parents were worried about my future when I was young, because I was more interested in
entertainment and artistic related things. But eventually they came around.
Interviewer: So, how did you overcome that?
Marie: Well, I believe that if you try to understand others, I mean truly understand them and where they
are coming from, once they feel understood, then they will eventually open up and try to understand you.
Also, perseverance! No one can take you seriously if you don’t take yourself seriously. I think parents
just want their children to be happy. And if I show them that this is what makes me happy, then they will
be happy for me.

Interviewer: Can you tell us about the most successful wedding you’ve done?
Marie: Wow! That’s hard to say. I feel attached to many of the weddings and events I’ve done. I’ll tell
you what; I can give you an example of a recent wedding where I found much personal success. It was a really
windy day and the ceremony was outdoors. The special arch where the couple were going to be married under
which made by the bride’s aunt kept falling over due to the wind. The staff was so worried. Well, luckily,
the guests haven’t arrived yet and bride is changing. Of course, I always bring my emergency kit. So I tied
that thing down with some flower wire, since it’s green, it blends in with the grass, and so you can’t see it.
And on with the show in five without any guests or bride even finding out.
Interviewer: Wow, sounds like you really saved the day!
Marie: Well, I don’t know about that. Their love is so strong; nothing material could really ruin their day.
But the way I see it, my goal is to solve problems before the couple or the guests even knows about it. Now,
that’s success in my book!
Interviewer: Does that happen often, where you solve lots of potential problems, but the bride and groom
doesn’t even know about it.
Marie: Absolutely! Usually on the day of, if the bride thinks I solved 2 problems for her, the truth is,
I probably fixed about 15. My goal isn’t about how many problems the bride thinks I fixed for her. It’s about
her trusting me to handle things as they come up. It’s about making her happy, allowing the day to go as smooth
as possible so she can worry about the things that really matter to her. Like how her fiancé looks at her when
she’s walking down the aisle and the look on her father’s face during their father-daughter dance. Now those
are what make all the hard work worth it.
